Deaf ?

Bit of a simple question really ...................
Can a Deaf person drive a car legally ?
Neighbour worried about her o/h driving if he is so deaf he has to have the tv blaring out , even with hearing aid in !!
What do you think ?

Deaf people are usually visually aware. I am deaf and I am always aware of everything that is happening. I use the mirrors constantly and therefore I consider myself a good driver. There are no conversations when I am driving. There are no distractions from mobile phones. Therefore I concentrate on driving all the time.

I am greatly saddened by the length of time drivers react to the emergency flashing lights. Hearing drivers do not use their mirrors enough. There are far too many distractions in the car for hearing drivers.

Whilst I appreciate that the deaf are often more visually aware, if the condition has come from old age and the person in question is also very "slow" in their observations and thinking, then being deaf on top creates a serious hazard for other road users.

And yes, people who drive around apparently blissfully unaware of anything going on around them.... They should be shot.
I've had situations where i've moved over for an emergency vehicle, only to have the pillock behind giving me abuse for it (until they see the vehicle shoot past).

The one that always sticks in memory was in my local town, passing a church where a funeral was being held, the funeral procession was just leaving as I approached, so I stopped to let them all leave together and then some daft bint comes flying round me, straight in between them all!! :eek:

She wasn't being disrespectful or impatient, she just wasn't paying attention to the bloody road, beyond the back of the car in front. :mad:

The simple answer is deaf people are allowed to drive, you also only need 1 working eye.

Yes deaf people can drive.
There was a campaign some years ago about a proposed EU harmonisation of rules which would have stopped deaf people from driving HGVs, which they were able to do in the UK but not in some other countries. I don't know what the outcome was.
