Hi - Wish to do pc clean up as in the 2nd sticky (how to speed up slow/infected pc) and malware/spyware removal as in the 3rd sticky. I use Google Chrome as my web browser - does it make any difference to the instructions??

Thanks alot - Urk

not really, just check the same things in chrome (e.g. toolbars, add-ons, etc.) as you would in IE

The first thing I'd recommend you do is to get rid of Google Chrome. When it launches it establishes a permanent connection to Google's servers and transmits data about every page you visit. It is, by any reasonable definition, spyware. Have a look at Opera or Firefox if you want a different browser.

absolutely concur with Geoff, Opera is IMHO, knocking spots off everything else at the mo :)

I generally believe that peeps should use whever systems browsers they wish without cricticism. However with Googles' latest privacy machinations, I would concur with the above, close yr Google account, and use alternative options. Try the suggestions above, nothing to loose.

There's a comprehensive guide here on how to configure the various options to suit your own comfort levels of privacy within Chrome.

Agree totally, hence my reply contained "IMHO"....we can only say as we find :)

This is, again IMHO, another very good reason to avoid chrome :)

If you're just worried about privacy, don't sign in.
If you use a web based email account, and !!!! like facebook, you can't be overly concerned about privacy anyway.

Thanks everyone for the tips. Yes I use gmail and like it except that recently it was unreadable unless you used Chrome. I did uninstall it once and tried to go back to IE but IE didn't have any add ons whatever they are when I went back to it and I couldn't use it for BBCIplayer etc. Looks like I need to change my email and search engine both. Thanks again Urk

Used Google Chrome for quite awhile. I love it for ease & speed but, the privacy I admit does send alarm bells o_O
That said & tbh I don't really care to an extent if Google recorded everything cos tbh I ain't doing anything 'strange'!
I ain't getting like my dad who has a mobile & only switches it on when he needs to & it's off again lol
Why: so they can't track him (he says) rofl.

My DH uses a web browser called Chromium, which is based on Google Chrome's source code but without the privacy issues.
