This is what I'm planning to do - can someone (Martin even?) please confirm that this will be accepted by A&L. I don't want to transfer my salary, DDs etc and would appreciate confirmation that there is no fine print that disallows the £50 if you don't do this.
    Thanks!

    Semi Artificial,
    Tarkus,

Hello, Just to say, you will have to pay in 1000 per month. you can take the 1000 out again after you have put it in, but you have to put in a 1000 **each month**.
**If you don't do this they will charge you 5 pounds per month fee**

I would also like to say that getting another credit card is not really something I would want to do because you are getting another 'credit check' marked against you. If you are not using the credit card is it really worth 25 to add a credit footprint on your credit history?

My wife gave up on A&L after 5 months of no action at all, just lots of calls asking why she was not using her account, did she have problems with the internet banking(??). After persuasion from me, she switched to LloydsTSB the next best thing, and we got loads of promo stuff, (inc. £50 each as I recommended her).

Everything was switched within a couple of months. It would have been quicker had Barclays not held it up where they could.
  • I, too switched about a month ago and have had nothing but trouble. Ntl wouldnt switch dd as it was being done by a third party, data protection and all that! They sent me a letter sayig if I didnt pay by dd they would be charging me £2. so a phone call to them to sort it! T mobile cut my phone off yesterday and I had to pay the dd on my card straight away to put my phone back on! There have been others so it has been a pain!! Problem is now I persuaded my husband to swop, he is also on T mob!! and our fault, maybe but I didnt want the credit card and didnt realise the £50 was dependant on that, they didnt tell me when they rang to check that we didnt want it!!!

We received a nice letter from A&L last night. A £250 standing order could not be processed due to insufficient funds. Not entirely surprising considering that they haven't transferred our salaries yet.

Emailing the MSE A&L address now.

For all of you having such a bad time trying to transfer to A&L, I'd definitely advise writing in to complain.

After nearly 6 months, lots of hassle and frustration and many telephone calls / emails, my account was finally switched :o

But I wrote to complain, detailing all of the calls/emails/letters I had had to make. Initially was ignored, but in my 3rd letter I said that if I did not get a response within 7 days I would go to the ombudsman. This made them actual bother to respond, and a nice lady called to talk things over. By this time the damage had been done, there was nothing she could do to turn back time, but she did offer a good will payment of £100. Although this would go nowhere near covering my time wasted, it is better than nothing. She also extended the interest free overdraft seeing as I'd not been able to benefit from it for nearly 6 months!

So I'll stay with them now, but as soon as the incentive of free OD has expired, I'll be moving to somewhere that actually believes in Customer Service.

Just managed to dig out the contact details for the lady in Customer Services who called me. She was very helpful.

If anyone is interested, her name is Tina Murray, and her contact number is 0151 966 3863.

    Hope this helps someone.

 I've recently opened a premier plus account with A&L and I've had a pretty bad experience transfering all my direct debits. I had 20 in all, and 6 say they have never received details of the transfer. To cut a very loooong story short, I'd advise doing the switching yourself - ring each one by telephone and give them your new account details. Keep suficient funds in each account (A&L offer a free overdraft), and only remove the dd from your old bank account when you can see they've actually claimed funds and been paid out of the new one.
DO NOT LET A&L DO THIS FOR YOU AS I DID!!!!

I had two credit card 0% interest minimum payment requests refused from my old bank (putting them in jepardy). One insurance policy - which would have been void if I'd tried to claim (or so they said). + both my gas and electricity. My old bank rightly refused these requests as they had been cancelled by A&L - but all these companies are adamant they never received info from A&L. Be warned.
