loss of no claims

please help advice needed, i had my car stolen last year off my drive with no fault of my own. i was paid out by lloydstsb. i had 9+ years no claims. i thought i had claims protection on my insurance, but when i renewed foolishly i didnt check my policy and found out it had been removed, my question is, are they in theyre right to take my no claims down to 2 years ive been told they shouldnt of took so many years off me. please someone help dont know where i should go with this.
