Problem with videos saving to pc and playing

I've just transferred Grandmas videos from her iphone to her pc. They won't play - the error message says - the file might be in a format that movie Maker doesn't understand or corrupted. Unfortunately you won't be able to publish your movie until you remove this file. Error 0x87160129. Can anyone help so that I can fix this as I can't delete the photos form her iphone until I have a copy on her pc. Many thanks.

Depending on the format of said Movie, you may need to convert the file. You could download video conversion programmes for free, but without knowing the format you have I cannot advise which software to use to convert it.

How would I find out the format. It's an iphone4 standard camera on it where she's used the video function on the iPhone. I've then connected the iPhone to the pc to transfer the photos. They are in windows photo gallery and the pc has vista on it. Not sure what to do now as can't delete them from the iphone til I have a back up copy that works.

Is there a usual video play software that u can put on a pc. Our pc used windows photo gallery & that was always fine but has stopped working with the iPhone videos but not the iPhone photos. The videos r still on the iPhone handset playing fine so am I missing a software thing of some kind that would let me offload the videos from iphone4 onto a pc hard drive and play? I'm not very tech savvy - apologies
