Hi,
Here is a brief insight. Basically Virgin has mucked up my pc by trying to install pcguard. Some hardware changes were made on 19thfeb by them and is causing me a problem uninstalling the files via add/remove. Now getting windows error message 2908. Basically everytime i boot it is trying to install these files. They have now told me to restore, which i did back to Monday morning, still same problem. Now they have said if i go back to Saturday then everything should be as it was. The thing is our cousin came and installed our wireess router for us and connected the xbox360 and laptop. i have all the settings though.
What i want to know is, do i have to start installing the router again from scratch and hardwire the desktop into it, or can i manually input the details, and how, on my desktop.
I am a bit frightened to do this before asking, as at the moment i HAVE the internet connection although not ideal as i could have problems in the future.
I am running AVG and Adaware and search and destroy, and WILL definitely be forgetting pcguard altogether. It has caused me no end of problems and one techguy there who has completely ruined everything for me.
Virgin are phoning me back later this afternoon...hmmmm....They also made me do this dat.thingy program and wonder if that what has mucked everything up.
Any suggestions please? WIll this solve my problems, as everything was fine before Monday and THEM trying to install pcguard from theie end to my pc.
Thanks.

Virgin updated your hardware? in what way?
Your wireless router should have very little to do with the pc your having problems with unless it is one of the newer things that have been brought out claiming to be a wirelss router. where is connects to the PC usb port and bridges the 2 connections, that is pretty easy to set up again. All they are is a wirelss network card and as I said it is bridged on tot he network connection witht he ADSL/cable
A way to test this would be to try the xbox and laptop without the pc being switched on, if it works go ahead and sort the pc out how wever you want, if it doesnt then speak to your cousin and ask him what he did and let us know so we can help you out.0 -
I wouldn't let Virgin anywhere near my computer, there should be no need if you're using an ethernet modem or wireless router. All the settings you need in Windows are basically "Look for and DHCP server".0

My wireless settings were ok, i system restored to saturday, but the problem was still there. So system restored back to today. The guy at virgin on Monday made me do all sorts to my pc to get pcguard activated (which it didnt) In the end he admitted he didnt know how to cure the problem. He kept making me reboot the pc, and on the last attempt it came up with hardware changes or something. This is the reason i think system restore is not fixing my problem. I need to get the files off of my system but add.remove is not working for this. Every boot up windows installer is trying to install something which isnt there (or partly there) due to Virgins so called help!! Someone else suggested i downloaded the program again and then try to remove it, but am not sure in case i make the problem worse.....
WIshed i never clapped eyes on pcguard, although used it under telewest and my old wireless equipment on 1 meg no probs. Upgraded to sacm with 4 meg and had no end of problems........0 -
You could try Start, Run, type msconfig into the box followed by enter. Then go to the Startup tab and see if you can find the culprit and uncheck the box. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
