If they have upgraded from 2003 to 2007 about 2 years ago then they will be pretty loathe to fork out thousands again so soon for what, in the most part, is cosmetic changes. My company is still running 2003 because it does all that we need!
2010 will work fine with anything produced in 07 & vice versaThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Or alternatively, Libre Office ... I believe that it's recommended here

I recently switched from Open Office to Libre Office and found it to be right up to date with regard to compatability with MS Office. I received some complicated Excel documents which I had to complete and return and Libre Office worked without any problems (whereas Open Office had a few glitches hence my switch)
You can set it so that all documents are saved in Microsoft format rather than the default that comes with it.
Given that it is free it's worth downloading and giving it a go.0 -

+1 for this. Two choices really. Microsoft Office on a student licence but you can't buy 2007 from new via this route. 2010 will however be compatible with 2007. Choice 2 is Libreoffice(or openoffice) and costs £0 and as said above can be made to work with documents in Microsoft word format easily and without problem.0 -
I understand a bit more now so I'll give libre a try. Thnx a lot.0

I'm currently using 2000, was thinking of going for 2010 but I can't bear the new interface having bought it for my kids laptops. Is the 2007 user interface like 2010, or more of a cosmetically enhanced 2000?0 -

2007 and 2010 are similar in look.0

You will have to decide soon as the Software4Students deal runs out sometime this month.
I found open/libre office did not work with VBA which was important to me at the time. If that's not an issue then they would probably be fine.
You do adjust to the ribbon interface but you can get a plugin which restores the classic look & feel.0 -

Visual Basic for Applications. Kind of uber-macros.
If you don't know what it is then you most likely have no need for it.0
