I rent a property with my brother and when we signed up we both hadto pay £30 admin fee and £70 credit check each and also another £30 admin fee each to extend our lease for another 6 months!
Is there any chance of relcaiming these fees?
Many Thanks,?

I wouldn't have thought so, you have paid for a service and the letting agent has provided that service

Congratulations for getting your money back from the Halifax but I don't think you can claim for everything that you have paid for....... although I might try Tesco - they charged me for a trolley full of shopping last week, will let you know how I get on :rotfl:0 -
I reckon setting yourself up as a letting agent is just a licence to print money. We were stiffed £100 each at the start of our tenancy for 'arranging the lease', credit checks, inventory etc, and then a further £50 plus VAT to extend it. And what work was involved in extending the lease? Printing a precedent off their system, putting our names and address on it, putting it in an envelope. No doubt they charged the landlord the same thing.
Ker-ching!0 -
""'arranging the lease', credit checks, inventory "" - all these things take time to do - why shouldn't a letting agent get paid for his/her work ? Do you work for nothing ? Some agents are charging £200-400 per tenant - i think your fees are quite reasonable - or are you just trying to screw money out of all and sundry just for the fun of it ?0

This is getting crazy, everyone now wants any fee for any financial type service to be claimed back, however clearly that fee was disclosed before and freely agreed.
Its going to get to the point where no one will want to provide a service to the public for fear that their agreed charges will be claimed back at some point in the future.I am a Mortgage Adviser

i totally agree with he last post. with these people jumping on the reclaim fee band wagon, sooner or later, something will have to give. the shortsightedness of all this makes me sick. we will ALL be affected by this in the end, including me, who have got the common sense not to get in the position of having to pay them in the first place!0
