Loft and cavity wall insulation **experiences**
I've recently bought a new property and while we were in the process of doing it up, I thought it might be a good idea to get people into look at and possibly install insulation into the property.
I contacted BG and was told by email that I would get a call within 48 hrs to organise at home visit. That never happened. I then emailed them back to say when will I get a call, still no response. I tried a third and still nothing.
I then tried EDF via their website. That was 3 weeks ago.
Anybody know why these companies aren't following up calls?

I applied through EDF about 2 weeks ago, they called a week later and yesterday someone came out to survey the loft.
My free insulation is taking place 2 weeks tomorrow.
I commented how quick it all happened and was told that it all depends how many requests they have in your area. It can take days or it can take months, but mine was exceptionally quick.
It’s in the company’s interest to survey your property, as they are getting paid for it, so I’m guessing they just must be snowed under with requests based in your area.0 -
A cavity is there for a purpose.
And it is not to be filled.
Be warned.
Loft insulation is another matter.0 -

We went local and chose Solarwall, after a recommendation. They were very efficient and the whole process went smoothly. They're based in York so would recommend for those in the Yorkshire/North Lincs area. http://www.solarwall.co.uk/£1 or less - entry to Woburn Safari Park, pair of cargo shorts, men's desert boots, £5 book token, tree peony, 2 x tights, National trust entry (50p for 2) *1 night at Hoxton Hotel*
+ numerous freebies. Thanks MSE :T

Hi I applied to EDF about 2 weeks ago and today got my letter today from AM Insulations Ltd to arrange a survey. Had anyone had their work completed, particularly if it was through this company? i read the deadline is MArch 31st but im not very experienced with these things (home improvements) and Im paranoid its a con?? It seems to good to be true...0

No it's not a con. The work is ultimately paid for by you through your fuel bills. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Quite agree with you NOW - wish I had known then what I know now, that you can end up with mould inside your cupboards that are against outside walls after youve had cavity wall insulation put in . Never had mildew/mould anywhere in the property before, in 25 years, and nothing has changed in terms of heating /activities or lifestyle, but we noticed the fine green powdery effect starting a while after insulating. Cant seem to get rid either for very long, it just comes back even after bleaching . The wost affected kitchen cupboard (floor unit) ,is by no means airtight, and is right next to the back door which has a draft, so not an obvious lack of ventilation, but we've had to resort to taking the cupboard doors off permanently.
Anyone who is thinking of filling in their cavity walls - google 'ask jeff cavity wall fill' and other similar sites before you decide. There is a guarantee system , but the onus is on the consumer to prove any problem is caused by the insulation - not easy because as the 'ask jeff' site says
" The manufacturers, installers, CIGA and HM Govt (through their quango the Energy Saving Trust) all refuse to acknowledge that cavity wall insulation can cause dampness problems.!'
So - youd be straight into legal hassles. Obviously there are many properties with cavity wall insulation which have no problems at all, but if you are a home owner amongst the percentage that do have probs -- its not funny and I personally wouldnt take the risk again if I was to move to another property where I could choose to 'fill' or not to fill.0
