If you want to buy or sell shares in Standard Life plc, you can do this through Capita's share dealing service: http://www.capitadeal.com/Never let the perfume of the premium overpower the odour of the risk0 -
Many thanks Ifts“Everything comes to pass, nothing comes to stay.”0

are capita's dealing charges expensive? their website won't even tell you what they are (except that the minimum is £17.50) before you enter your personal details, which makes me think they must be.
having said that, capita might well be the most convenient way to sell your shares.0 -

If Capita's charges are the same for all the companies they are registrar's for (this is what they charge to trade SSE stock) then it will cost -
Telephone dealing: 1% commission
Internet dealing: 0.5% commission
Telephone or Internet minimum charge £17.50
Ordep - If Capita's charges are the same as the above to sell your SL shares and if these are the only shares you want to sell, you may as well sell them over the phone as the minimum charge is £17.50 (regardless of tel or online trade).
At todays SL closing price, it would cost just over £18 (@1% commission) to sell the 767 shares. As its just over the minimum charge, no point registering (to sell @ 0.5%) to use their online service only to save about 70p.Never let the perfume of the premium overpower the odour of the risk0 -
Thanks for your help.
I've got so far, there asking me what company I'll like to sell the share to, with a long list to choice from.“Everything comes to pass, nothing comes to stay.”0 -

I think maybe you have been mistaken, as they were more likely to be asking what companies shares you want them to sell on your behalf rather than what company you want to sell to.
Tell Capita you have 767 shares in Standard Life, and you would like to sell them.
Here is a link to what Standard Life shares are currently priced at:

What are you going to do with the money? If you're going to invest it in an ISA or a SIPP you could do a bed & ISA/SIPP. The company you're setting up the ISA or SIPP with sells the shares for you and transfers the money into your ISA/SIPP.0

236 is usually a good price for SL. Its been going sideways for so long I gave up believing it could make 300
Pays a good div, no need to sell especially unless you want to try and buy them back at 170 but market is very buoyant now0 -

I agree with your thinking.
I was only answering OP's original question and didn't want to get into the pros and cons of keeping them (as it appeared to me they were unfamiliar with trading shares).
I was just letting the OP know one way of how to sell them as thats what they wished to do in their original post.Never let the perfume of the premium overpower the odour of the risk0 -
i was poised to sell when they reached 300 but could find no trace of my share holding number!!--they plmmeted and have bubbled along on a span between 230 and 170 since then--i still dont know how to sell them because all my dividends come through on my bank statement and i cant get the 'holding' number from that---i live abroad and check my postal mail yearly but get little 'info'mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0
