Inusrance - proof of NCB

Last year I insured my little run around with Kwik Fit, it worked out around £40 per month. Then they kept asking for proof of my no claims, which I supplied, and they said it wasn't good enough and didn't give much information. It jumped up to £159 a month.
The entire time they were saying the difference would be refunded as soon as I could provide proof of my no claims, and as I hadn't made that up I wasn't worried. I sent off everything I had, one at a time and it kept being returned as insufficient. I wasn't too hasty about it because I knew I was telling the truth and that I'd get a refund. Anyway, they finally told me, just before the last payment was due, that the reason my no claims wasn't good enough was because it was on a van. Had they told me that earlier I'd have cancelled the policy, but too late to whine about that now.
Today they sent a 'sorry you have decided not to renew with us' letter, which also said 'if you've gone with another insurerer, here is the proof of your 7 years no claims bonus.'. Is that classed as proof for another insurer, or will I go through all the back and forth again?
How can they confirm I've got the 7 years no claims, when they didn't get 'sufficient' proof from me?
