How can I claim PPI back on CC I no longer have???

My partner had a credit card with HSBC some years ago which she is pretty confident she had PPI on for the duration of the credit card, think she had it around 6 years in total. When we moved in together 3 years ago we settled all our debts and she closed the account with HSBC.
My question is, what would be our next step to following this up??? We dont know the account/ credit card number just the fact that she had it with HSBC.
If we were to phone HSBC what is the likely hood of them telling us if the card had PPI????
Also can we claim on a credit card we currently have which we cancelled the PPI on some time ago (think the PPI was in place for 4 years)????
People thoughts on this would really help
