pre payment meters

am currently with EON in 2008 i had a debt with them for both utilities i asked for prepayment meters to be fitted so i could clear my debt and manage my bills.

I cleared both of these debts 2 years ago and have since carried on using the meters, i recently requested from them if both could be removed, so that we can pay monthly instalments towards our annual bills, they have now come back to us and saying they will not remove the meters ever because we had a debt back in 2008, please could you tell me where i stand regarding this matter.

To have a ppm removed your supplier will run a credit check (because they will be giving you credit) and if you fail that check they are under no obligaiton of offer credit (credit meter). Another factor is, is the property rented or owned by you? With rented properties they are more reluctant to remove them once they have them in because the next tenant may run up a debt and do a runner.

  • Cannot remove the meters ever! you can always switch supplier, you don t have to stay with Eon for ever. Try your luck with the others. Would you be against a returnable bond for a year or so? I dont think there seems to be a standard practice for them all.Its worth getting shut of your very inconvenient meters, so give them a phone call to check their latest policies.I was told a few years back that Scottish Power were willing to get rid of the prepays if you d switch to them. As you ve been a good payer for two years now I am surprised at Eons response. As spiro says, if its rented then the landlord may not allow the switch anyway
