Getting rid of an oil tank

Hi

My new house has had gas installed, but there remains a plastic oil tank in the back garden that I'd love to get rid of. It does have some oil in it, not a huge amount though.

Can any of the bright minds on here suggest how I could solve this problem? I'm not sure how I could go about extracting the oil, what I would then do with it, or how to dispose of the tank.

Any idea gratefully received.

Thanks!

theres usually a drain somewhere on the tank. drain it off into gallon cans and take it to the local tip. (or put it into yer diesel car).
they have waste oil tanks there.
should be possible to cut the tank up into medium/large pieces with a jigsaw. then a trip to the council tip again.
    Get some gorm.

Thanks, I'll have a look for a drain when I get home, but as far as I remember the only access is either through the cap at the top or the wee tube near the bottom that went to the boiler.

have a guess on the amount of oil left in the tank, and then advertise it on ebay for half its value and a free tank.people will come, drain it and take the tank away with them

those tanks can be quite expensive, so saving you hassle and them money :-)

I seem to recall reading that if you transport the tank complete then it's classed as hazardas waste but if you cut a corner off (the top preferably!) then you can move it without issue (oil removed of course)

I've probably got it wrong and someone will correct me but I have a feeling I read it some time back when my tank leaked.... I got the new tank installer to dispose of it.
