    Thanks everyone.

I have seen the little pistons but I was referring to the draws that reach a certain point and then stop and close slowly as described by nearlyrich

According to DH (works for a kitchen components co & also fits kitchens!) these type of soft close drawers have a spring like mechanism on the runners, which, when the draw hits a certain point the mechanism will slow the draw down and the spring brings the draw in.

    Hope that make sense!

Just to clarify..If you buy some of these you can put add them onto your existing kitchen units ?

I just have what I would call a standard kitchen that had fitted about 4 years ago by a local firm.

  • Soft Close Drawers require much more powerful pistons than the door closers you can buy. You can replace your drawer boxes and runners with a soft close set up. It is fairly straight forward and can be fitted with basic DIY knowledge.
I can supply all that you need, I just need to know what sizes you require. Please call with the sizes of the drawer fronts and I can quote this up for you.

    There's really two options:

    1. Cheap - little bumpers that fix to the edge of the opening and stop the door for the last few mm - however these can still allow slamming as they're not very strong. Ikea sell them: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/50082036 I would doubt they'd be very effective on a drawer full of stuff.
    2. Expensive - full replacement drawer box or hinge that has a much more powerful mechanism. In the drawers this mechanism is an integral part of the drawer runners. Ikea's example here: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/60108677

I've just gone down the expensive route for my new kitchen, and bought the cheaper bumper ones for my wardrobes to prevent the doors from slamming.
