    I've been Money Tipped!
Another area of saving is by using coupons, mostly for household stuff which can be free or near free and some food stuff. Savings made on household stuff could be used on extra food??

i would also suggest porridge or value wheatbix(69p), as it will fill you up longer, theres 24 in a box so 2 boxes would do you a week along with milk at £1ish, i'd also say a banana each (again fills up up and releases energy slowly 19 bananas are roughtly £2.30

    lunches i'd make soup....

big bag of carrots (76p) and lentil (83p) with some curry powder ( check what spices you have in you might not need this) will make enough for a good few days

bag of frozen value chicken breasts is £4 there usually 8-10 in these, i'd make one out and make chicken noodle soup, relly finely dices chicken a stock cube (check if you have some in, use lots of stock) finely dices carrots (keep a few from the other bag) an onion (82p for 3) celery (89p use half -2/3) and a packet of value noodles x 2 (11p don't use the flavouring) will be enough for 2 days

2 loaf of bread, one bulk it out the soup and one to go with a packet of cheese for sandwichs cheese slices are good considering you never get 10 sandwichs from a block (2 for £3 i'd get grated cheese for the other one)

using one of the onions, carrots and the rest of the celery a sack of spuds ( value £2) and some of the onions i'd make casarole with mash and some frozen veg at 80p.

quiche made with value eggs (£1.25), a little of the cheese, and some frozen brocolli (89p) is very nice if you don't have any flour or butter in you could make a crustless one, serve with hm wedges or chips from above

i'd also make stew with the above spuds and half of the remaining onion, carrots (you'll prob need another bag 76p) and some of your chicken

next i'd do sheperds pie, value mine (£2.40 split in 2 and really bulked out alot with a handful of lentils and the value mixed veg) and rest of the onion, top with the rest of the spuds.

spag bol, rest of the mince, tinned tomatoes x2 (66p) more mixed veg and lentils, and some spices (chesk what you've got our else value mixed herbs are 19p) serve with spagetti (49p)

i'd split the spag bol before serving it and only serve half (if you mix it threw rather than on top you don't need as much, and sprinkle some cheese on to), then with the rest i'd add a tin of kidney beans (19p) and baked beans (29p) and some chilli powder/flakes (if you don't ahve any it's (95p) and serve with rice (40p)

i just costed that all out and it comes to £25.44 however theres more than enough lunches and some leftover chicken, rice, pasta, lentils and eggs, also you maybe have some store cupboard things you can use liek ebans and tinned tomatoes, if you have a slowcooker i'd recommend getting tesco value chicken portion instead there cheaper and you get more(altho i'm not 100% of this because of the bones), once cooked in the slowcooker the meat just falls off the bone, it could also be cooked and meaten frozen as a snack :)

quintwins............I think I'm speechless thats so well thought out, thank you x
  • I live off a similar budget and make a lot of soups, salads, pasta meals, rice dishes, and they on average cost my partner and I about £1 per evening meal, and pennies for breakfast.

Places like Aldi do things like Baked beans for 33p (and they are as good as HP beans I think) and they always have a good deal on their super 6. I also get potatoes and eggs there, they are good quality and a good deal cheaper than other stores. A 5kg bag of potatoes of £1.40-ish and that makes a lot of meals if you use it for mash, roasties, etc. They also do a 2.5kg bag of baked potatoes for £1.20ish. Defo worth looking at Aldi.

I use Quality save a lot for things like Chopped Tomatoes (29p), stiry fry noodles (2 pack 45p) microwave rice (41p i think), and they usually have good deals on other house hold things.]

I get a lot of meat products from Farm foods, things like fish is dead cheap there (last time i got 2 packs of Atlantic pollock for £4 and i think i got around about 20 fillets of fish), pork is 3x packs for £10 (10 pork loans, or 6 steaks/gammon steaks) and chicken is 2kg for £8. They also sell milk at 2 for £1.80 and 2 Hovis loaves for £1.50. They also sell 5 frozen pizzas for £4 which i feel is a steal.

I then buy all my pasta/rice from tesco. Own brand rice is 40p/kg and Pasta is a similar price. I also get things such as market value sausages there (most pull a face at these but I LOVE them, think they are really nice), and they economy chicken burgers are nice. Fish fingers are brilliant there as well, 60p and they taste better than youngs to me (more fish content as well :-s). Their cereal is also worth looking at. I get their muesli and it fills me up like a brick in the stomach (89p) but they do corn flakes at 33p etc.

Have you also thought about making home made pizzas/bread by the way? Can make a loaf for the fraction of the price and it goes really nicely if you're making soup etc. A bag of flour is about 90p and yeast you can get free from the bakers in your super market :-P

I would recommend making soup when ever you can, it's cheap as anything, easy to make, and according to studies people eat 23% less food when eating soup due to all the water... I just nip to aldi, see what they have on super six and make soup with that (veg soup usually, just throw potatoes, onions and carrots with a bit of garlic in a big pot and leave it to cook). Can make as many meals as you like with that and it's healthier :-)

    I'm rambling now aren't i?
