car accident, guy at fault NOT insured

:mad:Hi everyone
I am desperately seeking help/advice I have recently been involved in a car accident, although many say this 'I am not at fault' I promise it's true, a transit van reversed into the n/f/s of my little peugeout, cut a long story short....
Transit man admitted liability, full of apologies etc said 'no point with insurance malaki' we left on the understanding that I would obtain 3 quotes etc he would choose and fit the bill.
Accident Fri 5pm (approx), after receiving 3 quotes £1,107 £875 and £600 he agreed to the £600, it's now Wenesday, car due to go in for repair.... Transit man now refuses to pay anything, and admits to having no insurance for the vehicle concerned!!!!!
I cancelled my car at the garage, now I am clueless on what action to take cos I never rang 'police' or 'insurer' as stupidly took the guy at face value although photos of my extent damage are available and cars state of repair, I am gonna get in trouble for not reporting it the correct way???
Also as I have fully comp, I am assuming I will have to claim off my own insurance and face all the penalties incurring financial costs further???
OH I AM A FOOL, PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE XX

p.s Hastings direct are my insurers if that helps at all
Thank you so so much guys for listening to me moan xx

Phone your local police and make enquiries about how to go about this as they may be able to help you..

    Goodluck..

Your insurer will still take on your claim. You need to inform them ASAP whether or not you intend using them.

Alternatively you can use the MIB uninsured driver scheme instead. This will take much longer to sort though.

Uninsured wasn't supposed to be possible any more with the DVLA's continuous insurance thing.... But as I predicted it only punishes those who are honest enough to register vehicles in their own name.
So it looks like 60% of Bradford can rest easy........

  • Don't inform your insurer that you tried to resolve this privately with the van owner. Just give them the facts of the accident.

As you are "involved" in this incident you have to report the matter to the police at the first opportunity, that is not an opportunity that suits your schedule.
Failure to do so would leave you open to prosecution for assisting an offender, it is a very serious offence.
You should explain that you were under the impression that you would be dealing with this guys insurance company but he has now stated he has no insurance therefore you are reporting it to the police, that you refuse to help him avoid driving with no insurance and place the matter in the hands of the police.
Then you will need to contact the "MIB".
You must not takes this man's money unless it is after police action.

Bradford has the highest number of "in trade" vehicles in the UK
that are on the MID and can be driven by any driver to and from place of repair.
You have to hand it to the Bradford residents, they know how to beat the system using the system itself, they dont pay the high prices the other mugs who live in Bradford do.

Obviously, the delay was because he told you he didn't have his insurance details with him, and you naively trusted him to supply them in a couple of days so were waiting for that. He's now told you he didn't have any so you're reporting it.

Op take no notice of this rubbish about assisting an offender. You have not committed that offence. He spouts this all the time and is wrong.
