That is bad and it's only 3 minutes into the day. I hope it gets better over the next 23 hours 57 minutes.

    1. what exactly do u mean by he managed to install vista, and i managed to uninstall this ?, Vista is a operating system it can not be uninstalled.

depending on what u mean by installed vista, if he inserted a disc and formatted the hdd then it would depend on if he did a quick format or a slow format.
quick format mean only the root is effected and all the files are still there, but not accessible, but as he installed over the top the files have been overwritten
slow format basically wipes the entire drive
if quick format was used, and if the data was at the end of the drive. it may be possible to recover some files. aka not where the os was install to which is usually at the begining.
but as you have uninstalled this, which i take to mean you've reinstalled the previous OS or used system restore / system recovery then i would say the data is lost.

You did the worse thing possible, if the above is correct, take it from someone who knows, just look for my posts about recovering 2tb of data from a quick format 2tb hdd.
I knew not to do anything to the drive except to scan it.

if you used system recovery, aka the F10/F11 option when booting, there is 0% chance of getting anything back, system restore just goes back in time, if you use a todo backup / acronis backup, would depend on if the backup was a sector backup or file backup image.

download the portable version of recuvva to another drive, http://www.piriform.com/recuva/builds extract the zip file on to the same drive as you downloaded it and run a scan. note: you will need another drive to recover the data it may find.
