Hi all

Is the claim period for PPI 6 years?

I had a loan Before this and was Told I could only have the loan if I took PPI.

I did not need it

Hi happy_bunny, the general rule is if the loan was still active within the last 6 years, as this is the length of time banks should keep records. If your loan was still live beyond 2005 it should, hopefully, still be on records with the bank. If you finished the loan around 2005 or before it may be difficult and you might have to supply proof of it (original paperwork etc) for them to investigate

Whether it can go back more than six years depends on:
Who sold the cover
Whether that firm was subject to the General Insurance Standards Council's code or FSA regulation at the time
Whether they are subject to direct FSA regulation now or have been at any time since 14 January 2005
Whether the firm still exists.

Then there is the question of whether the cover was actually missold.

I got loans out with the halifax bank in 1995 and i think around 1999 with insurance at the time i was only young and at the time i was told by the person at the bank that i should get insurance
i have no paper work , but am still a customer with the bank
so i guess i cant claim?

what is sar?

just rang the halifax ppi line and they told me they will look into it and send me a letter within 5 days but i cant see me getting out back as that long ago

i received my SAR of the halifax yesterday and it has every bit of information held from 1996, account numbers ppi account numbers
only took 2 weeks as well well worth the £10
