Insurers asking for 15 years NCD as max
Hi, usually insurers have asked for how many years NCD you have with 5 yrs being the max. Sometimes that was upto 9 yrs. I can, and did, answer max to both those questions as I have had the discount protected for quite a few yrs now, so even the 2 claims I made (5 and 7 yrs ago now) did not drop me from max (65-70% depending on insurer) protection.
Now on 2 of the 3 comparison sites I used they are listing 15 yrs as max. It does make a difference as well, albeit a smaller difference, when you go for 15 instead of 11-12 years. The thing is, I can remember back quite a way and be sure of the max as I have had the protection for years now, but I cannot be 100% sure of 15 yrs ncd. I can remember a claim 12 years ago and may not have had protected NCD then so would have maybe dropped back a notch from max but have never dropped back to no NCD from starting driving 20 odd yrs ago.
So how do you work out if you have the 15 yrs NCD, if you have had protected NCD for say 10 years, and are pretty sure you have no more than 1, possibly 2 claims max, between years 11 and 15 (but aren't 100% sure - well not enough to risk insurance being voided).
I did ask Elephant.co.uk this last year and was told they would trust me and not refuse payout if it turned out that I had say 10 years and not the 12 I stated. I do not trust this verbal agreement though and want to make sure I understand how the accrual/de-ccrual (is that a word?) actually works.
Cheers
