Anyone insure a car parked at a different postcode over night??
I rent a council garage for my 2nd car but i'm struggling to get a decent insurance quote, i've called a few companies after getting low on line quotes but once i explain the garage is not at my house the premium rockets
I've been at it for hours

Why can't you enter the details on-line? There is always a question that goes along the lines of "What postcode is the car kept at overnight?" You then enter the correct postcode. It will then ask about whether it is parked on the road or in a garage or on driveway etc.
If the postcode is in a really dodgy area then you'll end up paying more because it's a risky area.
I park my car outside overnight, and it's at a slightly different postcode to where I live (as there is no parking outside my house, so I have to park it up the road and around a corner) and I just entered the details on the website and it gave me the relevant quote. Where I park is obviously a higher risk than where I live, as if I could park it on the road outside my house, at my postcode, it would be cheaper!

I think eCar insurance, has a seperate field you enter if you keep your car at a different postcode. Also is your car a classic or a sports car where you may find a better quote from a specialist? The owners of such cars probably use them as 2nd cars and may usually keep them at a garage at a different postcode, so they may be used to receiving enquiries about it.0

Thanks for the above, i have tried doing that but when i phone the cheapest companies and tell them it is on a different street and it is one of a block of garages they then increase the premium by at least £300.
It has been a frustrating day, you think you have a cheap quote until you phone them and point out the garage is not at my house, the 4 main comparision sites seem to fail under these circumstanceswouldn't it be nice if i won : car/cash/family holiday

Mine is a sports car, £190 to park it on my drive, Over £500 to park it in a locked garage 2 streets (5 minutes walk) from where i live, i pay over £300 a year to rent the garage, just wondering if it is cheaper just to park it in my drive?wouldn't it be nice if i won : car/cash/family holiday

You have already answered your own question. Get shut of the garage and insure from home = total saving of £610, more than enough to put extra security measures in place at home.;)Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -

Maybe the OPs first/main car is already using the driveway.
On the other hand though, try finding out how much it is to insure your first car in the garage away from home - though if it's your main car may find it an inconvenience to keep walking to and from the garage.0 -
I have a garage at a separate address to my house. I wish to take out just buildings insurance just for the garage...anyone know a company who will do this please?0

You can try your own insurer and see if they will add it on (not too likely), otherwise see if a local broker (not swinton) can help.0
