Renault Megane Scenic??

Hi, hope you could give me some advice? We are looking to get a family car (2 adults and 3 young kids) and have approx £3k. We have been looking around online and we like the look of the Renault megane scenic 1.5 dci (prob 04-05 reg). We will get out and about this weekend.

Has anyone had any experience, good or bad, or is there something else we should look out for? We are novices in this area so will probably buy from a garage as can get warranty for a few months so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, jedi x

Poor quality electrics, turbo issues, fragile trim. The engines can be troublesome too.

You'll be the salesmans best friend when you buy it, but they are unloved by the motor trade so expect a poor deal come trade in time.

CMAX is a much better car. Or a Zafira.
  • I had an 07 plate, so same or very close spec to the age you're looking at. No problems whatsoever, and great to drive. Nice high ride position helps to stop kids being car sick, and lots of useful nooks & crannies for 'family junk'.

As others have said, very poor residuals, but at the money your spending it means youll grab a bargain, then probablly run it into the ground for years & not be bothered about YOUR resale value anyway.

Do you really need a diesel? Theyre more to buy, and with diesel costing say 8p a litre more, that extra mpg may not be worth it.

    Here's a low mileage 05 plate, but its £4000 http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201203443400160/sort/priceasc/usedcars/price-to/4000/price-from/3000/model/megane_scenic/make/renault/postcode/m333al/page/21/radius/1501/quicksearch/true?logcode=p

Cheaper ones around £3000 were old shape previous model, or new shape high milers. Good luck!
