Hen do dilemma!!

My lovely bridesmaid has been trying to organise my hen do for me, and has come back with 3 options for dates. All of them have problems, and I could do with some fellow brides advice over which to choose please!!!

Option 1: 14th April - Pros - all of my hens can make it. Cons - it is 2 months before my wedding (16th June) is that too long?

Option 2: 5th May - Pros - all my hens can make it. Cons - it is 1 week before my friends hen do where they are also all going, and 3 weeks before my friends wedding where they are also all going. This makes it a really expensive month for not only me but all my friends - which I want to avoid.

Option 3: 9th June - Pros - all my hens can make it. Cons - my chief bridesmaid is meant to be on holiday and would have to come back a day early, and it is only a week before my wedding.

Please help me pick the lesser of the evils??!!

I would go for option 2. I am presuming all hens have said this date is ok? If so then it's very good of you to take into account the financial aspect, but I'm guessing they would have done this when they said they could/couldn't come also. And have worked out they can.

i personally wouldn't have a hen do 2 months in advance, but there's nothing wrong with it and if that's what you want then you're the bride. I wouldn't go for the week before, purely as it's asking someone to cut short their holiday. Unless you would have it without them?
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

I'd go for the first option - two months is fine, and it means you have time to go over a lot of weddingy stuff and there is still time to make plans/changes! Option two - I'd be cross if I was your friend and you deliberately scheduled your hen do the week before mine, everyone will be tired/skint/wanting to see their ohs.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'd also go for the first option. My hen do is Easter weekend (6th April - I'm a teacher and wanted it in the holidays) and my wedding is 2nd June so a 7 week gap. No problemo!
First baby due 3/3/14 - Team Yellow! Our little girl born 25/2/14 :D
  • Another vote for the first option; nothing wrong with an early hen do, if it makes things easier for you and your hens to budget around other hen dos. As a con it's the least of the three, IMHO. Second choice would be the third option, but it means an inconvenience for your bridesmaid, and you might want to keep the weekend before your wedding free, for last minute stuff!

I'd avoid the second option personally - people, in my experience, can sometimes agree to things like hen dos without thinking through fully the finances and logistics involved. You may find a high rate of last minute drop outs, either for your hen do, or your friend's hen do the following week, or both.

The right to express an opinion does not override the responsibility to show respect. :)
  • I'd go for the first option, if you think it's too far in advance, could you have something small closer to the time as well as this? a meal out and a couple of drinks or if weather ok a bbq at someones house to keep costs down.
Hoping the comping fairy is nice this month and the postman comes.

    I'd got for option 1.

Option 3 seems a bit mean to your bridesmaid and option 2 just sounds like a crazy hectic month - any time I am that busy I end up not enjoying the events towards the end of the month, even if money isn't a big issue.

    Option 1 definitely.

Option 2 - nope as everyone will be finding it expensive enough

Option 3 - harsh on the bridesmaid!

    Hi,

I don't see whats wrong with having the hen do 2 months before the wedding. My Mum has just said tonight that she's had a email from my BM saying the date for mine is 16th June, which is nearly 3 months.
Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.

Option 1 for me too - 2 months is not too soon and loads of discussions around planning still to do so your bridesmaids can feel involved
