Where to sell camera equipment?

Hello all,

I have a couple of SLR camera lenses I want to sell - consumer level lenses, not pro. I'm a private seller, selling my own used stuff.

As with all my stuff, when I come to sell I use eBay only when I have to (due to all the issues we read about here), and try to sell through other venues first. This usually means Gumtree and the local papers. However, I've had no replies to any of my adverts, except from the usual gentlemen in Lagos. Gumtree's stats facility tells me hardly anybody's even looking at the adverts.

Has anybody had any success selling lenses for prices similar to what they sell for on eBay on other online venues?

Regards,
Rob

AVForums is a good Website for selling all sorts of gear and has a very active Camera sales section

    ,

Talkphotography is even better but you have to be a member for a certain time before you can see or access the classified section

    http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/

Also worth a look is DPREVIEW but a lot of the buyers are overseas,

AVFORUMS or TALKPHOTOGRAPHY would be your best bet for an honest UK buyer.

Thanks for the reply. I'm afraid AVForums wouldn't work for me unless it's changed since I last looked at it a year or so ago - they did expect to get stuff at much less than eBay completed listing prices and expected to receive goods before paying. I'm not an existing member of any photography forum, so that rules out TalkPhotography too.

Maybe DPReview, but I agree there doesn't seem to be a lot of activity from UK sellers on there.

Thanks for this. I can't see any part of the forums at all without registering, so have duly done so and am awaiting approval.
  • Have you looked at Preloved? I couldn't say how well it performs as I've only browsed it casually but there seems to be plenty people using it

I've only ever browsed it casually myself in the past. I spend a lot of time on Gumtree and eBay looking for bargains, but have never found much of interest on Preloved, so I rarely venture there.

I assumed that if even I don't bother with it much, nobody else does.
Anybody actually sold any lenses on there?
  • I second preloved - never sold a thing on gumtree but been fairly successful on gumtree and even managed to sell my sigma 10-20mm on there when I went up to full frame.

Ah, a successful seller! How long did it take you to sell the Sigma, and did you achieve a price comparable to selling on eBay? Did you get a local buyer, or did you have to post out?
