My test is next week, early in the week. My friends dad has links with a lot of people in the motor trade, and has found a car for me to look at which is going to their house tonight.
If all is ok, I will buy the car. It is MOT'ed and taxed for a while. But then what?!
Say I go view it Friday, decide I want it, pay Saturday, it can stay at their house until after my test (big drive and trade insurance) then if i pass test, ring insurance company, start policy, can I then just get a lift to my friends, get in the car and drive it?! and it then comes back to my house and is now my car? Im a bit clueless and my family arent much help sometimes, one thinks one thing then another something else so they start bickering!

If you've passed your test and the car has tax, insurance and an MOT, you're good to go.0

You will have to fill out part of a V5 document to say you are the registered keeper too.0
-
but do the documents need to be sent off and recieved by the dvla before I can insure and drive it?0
-
No because as soon as the documents are signed, dated and sent you are the registered keeper.0

one thing to do is make sure you can afford it! insurance ca vary greatly between provisional holder and newly passed drivers. so get quote for the car before you purchase it last thing you want is to buy it and not afford to insure it so its sat dormant and you end up severely disapointed.
next thing is to make sure their not flogging you a dead horse thats been sat on their forcourt for ages because it has a number of faults not covered under MOT rules.
dont look at it in the dark make sure you look at in in the light, do your research, what car is it look on members forums for that manufacturer and model such as ford forums if its a fiesta for e.g.
if insurance is cheap enough (running quotes to start day you test with a full uk license) you sign on the dotted line on the v5c you have all legal documants you need and insurance in place theres nothing to stop you driving it.
take you time though you wont be used to the vehicle its size and power brakes and clutch bite.0
