My Tesco substitutions are getting really rubbish

Ah but Katiejones, it would take forever on a weekly shop to have to put a substitute suggestion on the list for every item surely?

It depends entirely who is pushing the computerised trolley around. If you're lucky, you get a middle aged lady who has a family of her own and who knows how to substitute sensibly. If you're unlucky, you get the 18yr old guy who has NO IDEA how to shop and if your list demands puppy food, but none is available, he chooses kitten food instead...

I don't know about other supermarkets but with Tesco any notes you put down are stored for another time. I have notes next to most of the things I buy regularly. It has made a difference to the substitutions I get. I usually get something I would choose myself now. It does take a little while to set up the first time you do it though.

I ordered some sliced leeks and they got substituted for...broccoli. The delivery woman basically just looked at me and said "I have no idea...want a refund?". Surely the next logical thing to pre-sliced leeks would be...fresh leeks?

At Christmas - I got a tin of very boring cheese biscuits instead of the delux tin of chocolate coated biscuits I had ordered. The diet police at work? I was so disappointed....

My worst was when I ordered pink toilet tissue and they sent an out-of-date Financial Times.

I use Waitrose and specify no substitutions which avoids the whole problem.

A friend of mine, who knows someone who delivers for ASDA, told me that a customer ordered some Strawberries and they substituted them for Strawberry Laces! :D

I ordered two packs of Tesco's cheapest bacon last week - they didn't have any in stock. I got two packs of ten rashers of thick cut finest bacon - never been happier.

But they substituted my lasagnes for spaghetti bolognaise. I love lasagne so was very disappointed. Surely they have more than just 1 brand of frozen lasagne?!
