My Tesco substitutions are getting really rubbish

Last night Tesco Value baby wipes were substituted with Tesco Value Hand Wipes. Here's a hint, Tesco, I ordered them because we have @rses that need wiping, (not hands), not because I wanted something in a similar-shaped packet with the word 'Value' on it. It's not like the regular Tesco baby wipes are much more expensive nowadays with the huge price hikes of the Value ones.

Light choices Paella, substituted with Light Choices Pasta. One is rice, one is pasta, was there really no other paella available in Tesco? It was the paella we were after not the packaging that said it was from the same range

Anyone else had any bizarre/rubbish substitutions?

Someone on a diet woould complain that they were sent the normal version, though, so your substitute would be acceptable to some people (although not for you).

  • Nappies are the one for me, order Size 2, get Size 5, obviously the person picking has never had kids.
  • When I first did online shopping I had the same problem with pull up pants (nappies) asked for size large and they gave me small hmmmmmm. Apart from that substitutions have been pretty good :)

Are subsitutions decided by the person picking your shopping or is it decided by the dreaded computer?

The computer does give suggestions, but we tend to use our brains instead :)
There is always the option for you to put what you would like as a sub if the original item is not in stock.

2 packs of sausages I ordered were substituted for sausage rolls - find it very hard to believe that there were no other sausages available, so I think the picker must have just been lacking in common sense lol

Ah but Katiejones, it would take forever on a weekly shop to have to put a substitute suggestion on the list for every item surely?

It depends entirely who is pushing the computerised trolley around. If you're lucky, you get a middle aged lady who has a family of her own and who knows how to substitute sensibly. If you're unlucky, you get the 18yr old guy who has NO IDEA how to shop and if your list demands puppy food, but none is available, he chooses kitten food instead...
