Discrimination over single person holiday

Later this year my other 1/3rd will be away for 2 months and I plan to take a week away in Europe to get some serious golf in.
Rahter than a hotel I looked at a villa only and with a good offer at £x per villa and not a per person price, I tried to book it only to be told that as I was staying alone it was then full price:eek:
So family of 5 would be £ x but 1 is then £x plus?
I am sure that apart from making no financial sense Surely it is discriminatory without attendant deals? I can understand the saving if it was a package of flights and cars etc but not when it's "Villa only".
Any thoughts. I suspect it was a try on.
PS my other 1/3rd is now coming with me to get the discount, but it will be a long flight from her sisters in Tasmania.;)

Stop! Think. Read the small print. Trust nothing and assume that it is your responsibility. That way it rarely goes wrong.

I'm more interested in the term "other 1/3rd". Do tell :-) I'm confused!I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0

I'd also like to know what the "1/3rd" is all about. [Also, the "rd" is a tautology!]
So this isn't a per-person price you are talking about with a suppliment for single people? It's the total price for the villa?
And you're going to a villa that sleeps a family of 5 on your own? Maybe they figure that anyone doing that can afford to pay extra, too!!
The only reason I can really think of the difference is if they make significant amounts of money on "extras". E.g. if there is a mini-bar / bar / restaurant / room service / take-away service then they would make less on this for a single person and so want to charge extra.0 -
Could be that the OP values the other person in the partnership as one third of the whole.
At best, an interesting concept.0 -
Come on you lot its obviously a "menage a trois"..........doh0

If it's anything like me, it's merely a jocular way of calling yourself a 'fat b......', ie the weight total of the 2 of them is unevenly balanced and by weight the OP is 2/3 of the total0 -

I assume the villa was at a reduced price, but when you tried to book as a single they told you that you had to pay full price (it's not overly clear).
If so, that is discrimination.
Whether it's an illegal form of discrimination depends on whether the booking is covered by UK law, and whether the discrimination falls within one of the specific forms covered by the legislation.0 -

It does not fall into one of the protected groups, and why should it - it is simply targeted marketing, nothing wrong with that (and I am a single traveller).0 -
I'm guessing its looking at the potential spend of 5 people?0
