Hi
We have just had a quote to move our combi-boiler from a bedroom into the loft, the quote also includes adding a remote timer/thermostat on the landing upstairs, also includes adding a thermostat valve to one more radiator.
The quote came in at £860 does this seem excessive?
thanks

Also.........
CORGI regulations state.....
You need a permanent fitted loft ladder into the roof......
A light in your loft... again permanent....
And if your roof isnt fully boarded....
A walkway with a handrail each side of it up to the boiler.....0 -

have the loft ladder
have the light
almost fully boarded.... boarded all the way from where the hatch is to where the boiler will be sited and beyond but not hand rails...
any thoughts on the price though?0 -

That would be hard for me to say.........
I work for someone and have no idea what things cost.....
If anyone asks me to do a job I on the side I charge em by the hour, that way I dont lose out and neither do they.
You are probably lookin at a couple of days....
Or 2 men 1 day..........
Then a sparky for the wiring.....
Plus Corgi installers have to recoup their course fees somehow... Materials....
I would say it isnt too OTT0 -
2day job? i just assumed that it would be pretty easy to do,,,, i was thinking a few bits of copper pipe through the ceiling move the boiler and bobs your uncle,,,,,, saying that I, of course, have no idea about gas or electrics0

I would there would be 2 plumbers anyway... boilers are a bit of a struggle to get into the roof all by urself
anyway so should be done in a day as long as it all goes well...
So would be 2 days labour....
Does the flue go up through the roof...
If so this is goin to be disturbed... And need to be repaired....
If it goes out through the wall.... then a new hole will need to be formed out through a gable end....
I would say the Flue pipe is probably the hardest part of the job0 -
hiya
We had similar work done to this last year. We had the boiler moved from the garage to the loft in the garage as we did a garage conversion. We also replaced all our radiators at the same time.
2 plumbers came round to do it and it took 3 days. This was with my husband labouring for them too (e.g. removing old rads, cleaning up after them etc. ).
We paid £2200.

thanks,
I still dont know, it still seems a little steep, £860 for moving a boiler 6-10foot higher....surly cant be much more for a new boiler, it seems a lot for labour as the only parts needed are the timer/thermostat, a radiator thermostat and some copper pipes0 -
seems a bit steep to me too, here in the NW.
i reckon its 2 days 1 man work max. materials not much.
the SE may have to pay, twice our local rates. even so it seems a bit OTT.Get some gorm.0 -

What need to be done with the flue??0 -
going to reuse the flu, if it cant be reused then we have to pay the cost of the parts0
