Ikea Delivery

Hi,
We've found a sofa that we really like from Ikea but it can't be ordered online, so we need to go to a store and order it. However as Oxford appears to be a slight black hole for Ikeas, our nearest choices are Coventry and Milton Keynes. We know that MK doesn't stock this sofa, so Coventry is our only option, however they dont deliver to Oxford. :wall: So we're now looking in to getting a man with a van to help us out. We've had a few quotes, but i'm not entirely sure how it works. Would we normally go with them to pick the sofa up? I would presume so, but v unfamiliar with how this would work?
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,

Have you been into an Ikea store or spoken to someone over the phone about the sofa?
Ikea stock some sofas in store for collection or home delivery can be arranged (at a cost) and some sofas have to be delivered from a distribution centre and cannot be collected from the store (in which case delivery may be included in the sofa cost).
Hope this makes sense, I only know this information as we purchase a couple of Ikea sofa ourselves last weekend and they were in the process of transferring delivery from distribution centre to store (fortunately for us they hadn't completed the transfer yet so we could arrange delivery for free from the distribution centre).Kate short for Bob.

Which sofa is it you're after? If an item is only available from a store and not the website, it is normally designed to come in parts that should fit into larger cars. The website carries the package sizing for all products - so you should be able to measure up if you could fit the parts in to one or more cars.0

Thanks both for your replies.
This is the sofa: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/10205223/
For some reason there has been a delivery failure and so Ikea said they can't deliver it and the only way would be for me to pick it up from the store, but they're unable to reserve one for me.
I have a BMW 1series so even with the sofa being broken down in to packages, it wouldn't fit it. Hence why i'm considering using a man with a van. Someone has quoted us £58 to pick the sofa up and drop it off. But i'm guessing either me my OH would need to go with them to make sure they don't just drive off with the sofa?
Thanks0 -
Thats the sofas we went for, we've got the 2 and 3 seaters! Small world.
We were told this sofa has proved very popular so they are moving delivery from distribution centre to store but the Nottingham store where we went to purchase it didn't yet have the 3 seater in stock they delivered it all free from the distribution centre.
Could be worth you popping to the Milton Keynes store to see if they will do this for you tooKate short for Bob.

A small world indeed! :rotfl: Would you recommend them? Are they comfortable?
So even though they didn't have it in stock, you could order it to be delivered? I'll give that a try, its just annoying having to do the hour drive to any store just to get it ordered.
I'll give it a try, thanks for all your help!0 -

A good man and van company will not expect you to pay upfront.Normally they would collect and you would pay when they deliver to you.
I done this just this week with a guy who picked up a wardrobe,6 foot chest of drawers and 3 bedside chests for me -paid for it all when he got here.He paid for the items when he collected and I refunded him.
There are also man and van services dotted around the country that purely do Ikea runs. These also collect, pay and regain the money from you upon delivery. If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -

Not necessarily - it's quicker to get to ikea wembley from Oxford than it is Coventry or Bristol - and it's only a few more minutes to get down to Southampton or Bristol. Not really the point, I know...just thought I'd mention that us Oxfordians do have a couple more options0 -

Thanks,
According to the ikea website the sofa will be back in stock at MK between 9 - 16th march.

Just something to think about - Ikea and europacar have a joint offer on at the moment - you can hire a van for the day for £40, bit cheaper than the man with a van

Thanks again for the answers.
I've rang up Ikea Customer Services and theres been a delivery failure on this item and thats all they know. There aren't any deliveries due for Milton Keynes or Wembley for at least the next 6 weeks they told me.
I've just seen the van hire deal, which seems like a good deal; it's offering a Vauxhall Vivaro which has a loading volume of 6.20 m3. Would that fit a sofa which is 2 metres long in it? I sometimes wish my brain would be more helpful in these situations.
The only problem with the van idea is that if we booked it, they can't gurantee that the sofa would be in stock on a particular date and they can't reserve it, so could be a wasted booking!
All of this for a damn sofa, i might just look for an alternative, seems like a lot of hassle for a sofa!!0
