Cannot pay by cash ? What the ?

in Credit cards
I have just received my statement from Tesco Credit Card.
It says on the front:-
"Please Note you are no longer able to make cash payments to your Tesco Credit Card account, over the counter at a bank..."
Has anyone else noticed this ?
Has anyone got any thoughts on this ?
Why would "they" want to restrict paying in this way ?
Surely, as cash is legal tender, "they" must accept cash as payment ?
I would be very grateful for thoughts, comments and answers.

I don't see that they have to. Cheques are legal tender but a lot of places don't accept those.
They may well incur extra costs from the banks for doing this, as it's a nightmare of a manual job, so have decided it's not worth it.0 -
I thought legal tender was only applicable when paying taxes or something like that - otherwise people are free to agree what they will or wont take. With no intention of being in any way flippant, maybe change to someone who does take cash?0

Legal Tender in the UK only applies when paying a debt into court.

For day to day business transactions, the parties are essentially free to accept and reject what they like.0 -
