Problems with quotes disrupting paragraph structure

Have the MSE techies made any changes to the quote function in posts. Every time I paste something from another source then highlight it , this places multiple spaces between paragraphs and some of the sentences. I never used to have this problem, and still don't on other BBs. For those who like to quote facts it is very time consuming to repair the structure of the paragraphs. As an example, this is what it should look like
The charges include "operating a vessel in a manner causing unnecessary danger or risk" and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The two men cannot be named until they are sentenced in May.
The Rena has leaked large amounts of fuel in what is New Zealand's worst ever maritime environmental disaster.
Some of the charges are punishable by up to seven years in prison.
Both men also face a charge relating to the "discharge of harmful substances from ships or offshore installations". The captain pleaded guilty, but the navigating officer did not enter a plea on this charge.
Actually when you view the paragraph it is best just to remove the spaces and not try to repair the structure

Identical problem .... best part of 2 weeks now. When it started I could only repair by cut / paste. Then it changed and started responding to just deleting the white space :
