Reclaiming PPI - not always easy

Love the site, love the advice - all good.
However, reclaiming PPI is not always that simple. We had a loan from FirstPlus (owned by Barclays) and they missold us PPI - we were led to believe we would not get the loan without it.
My husband is self-employed, so we should never have been sold it. FirstPlus would not entertain our claim and when we went to the Ombudsman, he told us we couldn't claim because we did not appeal against FirstPlus in the allotted time.
Moral - always read the small print and don't take out loans with FirstPlus (although I think they may no longer be offering loans).:(
