Voluntary Redundancy

Hi, although I asked about unpaid leave the other day on behalf of my OH, he came home last night with a letter stating that his company was going to begin a redundancy process. They are also accepting voluntary redundancy letters which will be assessed during the redundancy process.
Soooo, although my OH taking VR isn't ideal in these current times, the physical stresses of the job is taking their toll on him, for a meagre amount of pay at present. We both think the benefits of him not working there anymore far outway the negatives, plus I earn enough to pay bills, buy food etc, so in the near future, we should be OK
IF they accept his VR, is there anything he can claim? i.e Job Seekers Allowance, or perhaps a reduction in council tax or anything that would just help the initial fall of incomings?
Neither of us have ever claimed anything, so unsure which websites to look on, who to talk to etc, any help so we can assess our situation would be great, thx

Ask for the terms of the redundancy so you know where you stand.
Can claim JSA from the date of termination IF looking for work.
Chances of other benifits are probably low if you can cover with your income.
chek somewhere like http://www.turn2us.org.uk/benefits_search.aspx there are other sites that do similar0
