Tax on Redundancy

Hi, just wondering if anyone at all can help me! I have looked all over the web, and cannot seem to find the answer to my question!

My husband has recently been made redundant from his job. I have been told that if the company that made him redundant was to offer him a job, maybe the same job but on reduced hours, that he may become liable to have to pay tax on his redundancy payment.

Can anyone tell me in what circumstances this might be so? Thanks very much. x

If it can be show that the original redundancy was not genuine any payments could be come taxable.

when was the termination when is the new offer likely to happen.

For genuine redundancy you can be re employed almost immediately if it can be shown there is a new need for work.
  • Hi, It would be the same job technically. As the reason he was made redundant was that there were 40 hours, but now there are only 10, and as this wasn't reasonable, we declined the 10 hours. If he took the 10, it wouldn't be ideal, which was why we didn't take it, but we may be able to work with only that many hours temporarily.
    Thanks. x
