Is gas cheaper than storage heaters?
Options
Sorting out our 4 bed student house for next year and amongst our shortlist is a flat that appears to only have electric storage heaters. Am I right in thinking this will be much more expensive than all the other properties with normal gas central heating?
I've read that the difference is made up for in gas servicing costs to some extent, but as we're renting that obviously isn't our problem.
Only been able to find threads about paying to install it in one's own home thus far which also isn't in our equation.

Storage heating does cost quite a bit more than Gas CH.
The actual cost of off-peak electricity at 5p-6p/kWh is more than gas at 4p-5p/kWh, but you pay a premium on your daytime electricity(for 17 Hours)
With 4(or more) students it is doubtful if you will have sufficient hot water heated at off-peak reates. Also the big problem with storage heaters is they leak heat and run out in the evening and electrical heating used at daytime rates is very expensive.0 -
As I thought, thanks. That house has gone now anyway, but will know for next time.0
