HBOS cancels visa cards

Whilst on a nice long holiday in December/January HBOS closed my VISA card account and replaced it with a Mastercard. As I was still able to use the Visa card till the end of January, I have only just queried the reason and was told it was because Mastercard was more widely accepted than Visa. Does anyone know if that is the real reason or is something else going on?

It's simply that HBOS use Mastercard now for their credit cards rather than VISA , both are widely accepted....

makes no difference imo
i used to have a rbs visa card then they upgraded me to a mastercard gold card and its been accepted everywhere i've needed it

It's strange - I've seen Halifax One credit cards branded with the Mastercard logo in literature and online, but some new signs in my local branch had them branded with the Visa logo! Do they actually know what's going on?!

Personally I'm annoyed they might change my One visa to a mastercard... it's the only Visa credit card in my wallet: I have it for the 9 months on balance transfers and purchases, and it's my "token" visa card that I have as a backup in case the Mastercard network has a problem... and that's happened a couple of times in the last year!!

I forgot to mention that I already had an HBOS Mastercard, so now I've got 2 ...??
