Hello
I am hoping you lovely folks can help me!
My husband is 30 in october (yes a while away but i need to get saving!)
he loves american food and diners etc so i was thinking of a themed party.but thats where i am stuck,
would it be rubbish to have a party at dinner time?? we have several babies in the family that would mean they wouldnt come to a night do. I was thinking of a lunch or something with a diner theme and serving hot dogs and burgers and getting some real american drinks and puddings etc.
I am just worried that it would be a bit naff during the day, and im not sure where i can hold such a thing, i could hire a room but im not sure how i would then get all the food heated etc.
any suggestions??
thanks :-)

Ooh that's a lovely idea. My DS wanted a "different" type buffet for our DGD1s christening and I made enquiries to hire a hot food unit ( similar to a pub cavery ) you could keep burgers and sausages warm in that with onions etc. The same company offered to lend us their hostess trolley too. You could also make enquiries with burger vans (the ones you get outside football grounds) they often are bookable for outside venues parties wedding etc don't know how much they charge tho. You could have a candy buffet (can't post attachments cos I'm a newbie but google it) they look amazing. And ice cream sundaes with selection of toppings. YumThe secret of Christmas

I think you have to get your priorities straight .... are you celebrating his 30th, or are you forcing him to hang out with babies on his birthday and pretend to be enjoying himself?0

If you think he will enjoy having all family and friends of all ages then you go for it. We are a large extended family/friends ages from 90yr - 2 months. We love being together and do so often. Sometimes we follow through with sky lanterns. If my family dont like it they have a strange way of showing it as they linger for hours and always come back another time.Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes0

come have it in my kitchen:D
i too love 50s american diner, so we made a bit of the kitchen a snug, diner stylie
i dont see whats naff about having a day party with everyone included:D
but i can tell you anything american diner style is expensive so anything you can make yourself would be a bonus, i have made bunting etc for our kitchen but you could make the license plates etc as well, flags are cheap from ebay
shame its october or you could have it at home
are there too may people to have it at home?
it would be the easiest and cheapest way to do this
get ketchup bottles from the poundshop
we have diner baskets and liners (the red ones) but again not cheap,

american themed paper plates?
straw dispensers are cheap
but the big red american cups again not cheap
(we dont use them, we play beer pong with them, without the beer:rotfl:)

i got a kit from a uk seller for around £8 with fewer cups
i'm gonna stop
i could rabbit all day about decor and american diner food:o
sorry0 -
Could you perhaps have a bbq with American theme, or perhaps American old school 'surfs up!' style stuff? Then people with babies can come and then others can stay into the night?
And no it's not too cold for a bbq in October, think boides and failing that, think we have a bbq on Xmas day! xMarried the lovely Mr P 28th April 2012. Little P born 29th Jan 20140 -
I think a day time party would be fab and it sounds like a lovely idea. We often have family parties and they are always during the day, usually from 12 onwards in whose ever house is having the party. Ages range right through from babies to my Dad who is 87. Everyone stays until they are ready to go home. Its better in the day for families as the kids can come and you dont need to worry about driving home late at night etc.0

Just a thought - I don't know how do-able it is depending on how cold October is - but do you have a garden and access to a projector and a screen?
What about a 'drive-in' 50's theme? Then you screen a (child friendly) movie which keeps them occupied if DH isn't that into kids, you can work in the food theme, have a bbq if the weather is holding up0 -
Oh my goodness you lot are brilliant!!!
Thanks for the great ideas I love them all!
Midnight your kitchen looks amazing and I love the ideas of the BBQ and drive in movie.. Could even do both!
I knew you wouldn't fail me :-)

A friend of ours has a home where the exterior is painted white. Their teenagers often would watch a movie that was projected onto the outside wall. They would have a BBQ and sit out on the grass in the back garden.
You will be able to have so much fun planning this.Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes0 -
I am now you have got me thinking!
Just need to find a venue now :-)LBM- may2010:A0
