Barlaycard Payment Protection

Hi all,

When the whole PPI thing kicked off years ago I wrote to Barclaycard (pre gov ruling) because of the monthly payment protection charges they put on my account (which was opened, and dated back to 1996). I thought it may apply to me as I have been self employed on and off for 12yrs and the protection was probably of little use. I didn't receive a reply to the letter, and for one reason or another I didn't persue it.

Recently, Barclaycard took over Egg (who I also had an account with, paid DD)... I didn't notice the change and to cut along story short, they shafted me for 2months late payment - claiming the DD was cancelled (although its still active on my account).

Anyway, the situation peeved me off and reminided me about the PPI claim.

Do I have a case to recover the PPI from Barclaycard? and what do you do when a claiming letter is ignored?

Thanks for any help on this.

  • If you have a valid direct debit and had sufficient money in your account then you have a valid complaint over that.

Regarding the earlier complaint, have you got evidence that you ever sent it? (Proof of posting is free from the Post Office).

On the other hand, if you did not want the PPI in the first place, why did you not query it when it first appeared on your statement sixteen years ago?

Odd question for this forum... why didn't anybody who is claiming the billions the banks are being forced to give back, say no in the first place??

I was 18 at the time and Barclaycard was my first credit card. Lets just say I was a bit wet behind the ears... could I of done anything since, well yes... but we are all guilty of letting things fall by the wayside, and banks make big money out of things falling by the wayside. In actual fact, I've got a Barclaycard statement on my desk right now... with the intention of getting my two months late payment charge back... but I'm self employed, and its under a pile of stuff which is more improtant than £24 - does that mean I do not deserve the money back?

Aren't questions like mine the point of forums? to save people time. For all I know, I may not have a claim and that may be why the letter was ignored, I don't know - hence why I ask.
