Buying a secondhand Zafira 06 reg

Hi All

Our 03 eco4 Astra (115k miles) requires its brakepipes replaced and the whole work with MOT repairs will cost us £1000 or so; Road Tax £30, Insurance £311. Astra cost us £500 per MOT each of the last 2 years, with additionally engine management system repair £600 (2 years ago),handbrake last year £100.

We have however been offered the opportunity to purchase a 06 Zafira cDTi Design (26k miles), 120bhp £4250 plus our Astra; Road Tax £165, Insurance £371.

We wondered whether anyone could offer any advice in reference to the Zafira and your opinions on whether it's better to stick with the Asra or go for the Zafira.

I think you should get the brake pipes cleaned and take it for another MOT somewhere else.

Our garage "cleaned" them last year and said they probably wouldn't pass this year's MOT.

I ignored my advisory.
They were fine until they burst.

That's not many miles, diesel Zafiras are usually motorway cruisers.

The diesel isn't the most stunning engine.

The engine's are ok, its just everything bolted to it thats the problem.

The older Vauxhalls are much better and will last longer.

Take the Astra elsewhere for an MOT or buy a new car. So thats about £50 v's erm, £4250...

Alos, the Zafira will have a heavily clogged up DPF with that mileage on it...

We have been looking up reviews for the Zafira, and they don't look good. But then again how many people post good reviews when their car is doing well? Seen one site saying DPF costs £1200... ouch... and their tyres are £120 each.. ouch again.

My Zafira A costs abut £40 a tyre

Sister had one as a curtesy car whilst hers was being repaired from an accident, She wanted a 7 seater and thought great.

Didnt take long for the joy to wear off, She hated it.

I take it they value your car at zero £? You can get 07 plate cars for less than £4000.

26,000 miles, I wonder if thats 26,000 journeys of 1 mile? Clutch and brakes, Engine, Gearbox maybe in a worse condition that a car thats done 100,000 motorway miles.

I think you need to find yourself a new MOT guy and repair garage. Guy charged me less than £100 labour to do the brakes on my car.
Cables, Calipers, Discs and pads + brake fluid flush.

Few hours work there. Reasonable i thought.
