Pay day moved

Hi all
Not sure i'm in the right place but here goes.
Where hubby works they changed his pay day date late 2010, from the 25th of every month, to the 6th of every month. This caused a lot of uproar as people had to change dd's and things. (not always so easy) They were told of this by email.
Then last year another email infornming them from now on if the 6th fell on a weekend, they would no longer be paid on the fri before hand, but the following mon! More uproar, but they wouldn't budge, and they had to accept it or leave
Now they have had an email saying it falls on good fri so they won't be paid till the following tues! they say HMRC won't let them.
Now, no one has signed any contracts since the first one which would be for pay day on 25th of month.
Surely just sending an email saying thats whats happening be a contract when nothing has been signed.
Can they (hubby and co) do anything?
Just to add we have phoned HMRC and they could be paid earlier, it would just be added to the tax year, that will be ending on the 5th april. That is the crux of the problem i think!
Things are very tight at the end of the month (all month really) but the thought of no money over the long weekend with 2 kids is so depressing! xx

It will be the bank that is causing this, not the employer. Many banks do not process payments on a weekend or bank holiday. I've worked for plenty of employers in jobs with weekly pay where they've submitted the pay on the Tuesday which should have been transferred on Friday but because it was Good Friday it has landed the following Tuesday.
If your finances are so tight that a few days is so critical, I suggest you get over to the DFW board and get sorted out.0 -
No debts to sort sorry.:rotfl:
hubby hasn't (like a lot of people) hasn't had a pay rise since 2008, i was made redundant while on mat leave, decieded i'd stay at home with the boys, till youngest goes to school. Hubby also pays for his oldest who doesn't live with us. We knew it would be a struggle, and accept this.
That is not the point. It is not helped by payments being moved about all the time.
Just really asking if they can do this? xx:lovethoug0 -

Yes, they can.
Paying on the tuesday following Good Friday is pretty common practice, because the banks will be closed on the Friday, which would be his normal payday (although nice employers, like me, would pay them on the thursday instead ).
I suspect, however, that your suspicions are correct and they are trying to push the payment out of the current tax year. Do you know if their financial year end follows the fiscal year? You had me at your proper use of "you're".0 -
Their tax year ends at the end of oct.:lovethoug0

I don't really understand why they've done that then. Other than being mean.
Unfortunately, there's not a lot you can do about it.

Didn't think so, just checking, its just so annoying! I'm sure some employers are doing it on purpose, knowing with the lack of jobs, they have you by the short n curlies!

Just to add, OP, you don't need to be in debt to use the DFW board. They are really good at helping you to identify where you can find more money which may help.

KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
They are not being mean they are just doing it so they don't have to mess around changing payroll days and forewarning staff that if it lands on a weekend they won't make the extra effort to do it early.
Quite common reallyThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!
