I would do as someone suggested above and book a flight to Asia.
I quit my job in 2010 and went travelling for 8 months. So glad I did it. Asia was the cheapest place we went, you could go to places like Thailand, vietnam, parts of malyasia etc, and stay in places costing £10 a night or less and eating main meals for around £1.50! Soft drinks were around 30p or something in Vietnam!
For Europe, Id have a look at the Workaway or Helpx website, because it will be expensive to pay to stay somewhere. We did workaway/wwoofing in Oz.
or theres the 1 year working visa in Oz.
I will never regret going travelling. Also now Im back im in a better paying job than I was in before, and may not have found if I hadnt left my old job. I say do it, and dont look back!0 -

Yep, that's the way to do it. Book a flight to Bangkok - the gateway to SE Asia - spend a few days hanging out around the bars of Khao San Road and take it from there. You'll meet lots of people who will give you plenty of ideas (Have you read/seen The Beach?) and there are loads on cheap onward travel options to throughout the region.
Costs depend on how much you you want to rough it. You can usually find basic places (shared bathroom, no air con) for £5-10 a night or nicer ones (air conditioning, en-suite, Wi-Fi) for £15-20. Personally, I would say that in SE Asia it is always worth paying a little more for air conditioning.0 -
well, travelling is looking likely, just put in a request for 3 weeks off work, hopefully that will be accepted. if not i may just go anyway.
going to order one of the 'europe on a budget' books and start listing places i'd like to go/see. think i have to get europe out of the system first before venturing further afield.
looking further ahead, possibly later this year, then i need my own place whether its moving into my place or just renting somewhere and to get a better job, but don't think i could do any of that without having a decent break first.0 -

That's probably a good way of doing things. There's plenty on our doorstep in Europe to explore before exploring further afar. It took me several years of wandering around the Continent before I headed east.0
