Can anyone please advise me... 6 years ago we took out MP for both myself and my husband and the NW building society knew that I was a foster carer. When I tried to claim on this 2 years later they said it wasnt a 'proper job' and I couldnt claim! but had been taking extra money from us over the years as if it was a 'proper job'! I have now writtent to them with Martins template asking for all the relevant documentation and they have replied that this MP is NOT regulated by THE CONSUMER CREDIT ACT 1974. I am now lost and dont know what to do.... HELP!

No it is not regulated by the Consumer Credit Act.
A sale from 6 years ago (i.e. 2006) is regulated by the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.
Whether a complaint is upheld would depend on whether it was reasonable for you to realise you were not covered or not - but you can take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service to find out.0
