Royal Mail lost mail claim question (a little silly)

(but also a little serious)

Can I claim without a printer? :o

Mine broke a couple of months ago and I've managed just fine without it until now, but I've just got another lost mail so will need to claim, afaik, you have to print stuff off, and neither my friends, family, nor work have available facilities.

I'd love to get by without one, I've hated every single printer I've ever owned, damn things always break and the ink is another expense.

What are my options here? Does the local library offer printing facilities, or should i face my demons and buy another printer? (Really don't want to)

Wasteful things, would be easier if it was all digital. Is it? :A

    My library has a printer, I think it's 10p a copy.
  • Does it have to be done on the computer?

Surely there must be a form that you can collect / fill in at the post office, otherwise how would people, like my parents who wouldn't even know how to turn on a computer, ever make a claim?

Collect a P58 form from the Post Office if it is an inland item.

i filed a claim twice, never heard back from them.

I was a buyer once and items went missing, so seller filed a claim.

RM sent me (as the buyer), some forms to back up what the sellers claim.

It was a lot of work for a buyer tbh, had to dig out the ebay auction id anjd paypal transaction id, and stuff. Wayy too much work to burden on the buyer, who has nothing to gain from this.

I did it because I know what a pain it is to be a seller and have your stuff go missing by RM.

I'm guessing the two items I filed claims on were ignored because buyers didnt bother to send back the forms to RM

The copies though are for the protection of the seller. seller sends original COP through the post and it gets lost (which is not unusual for claim forms)

Also of course seller needs to print off all the eBay and PayPal pages to prove value and to prove refund has been made.

Claim forms are available from all Post Office® branches or can be downloaded and printed off from the bottom of this page. Alternately a customer can have one sent to them by calling Customer Service on 08457 740740 Textphone 08456 000606.

You need to send printouts of the Ebay item page and the Paypal refund page - so if you're happy to log on to your Ebay & PayPal accounts at the library and print those pages you can do it without owning a printer. You will also need to photocopy everything you send (especially your proof of posting slip) just incase it all gets lost.

You could also do it at an internet cafe, at work or at a freinds/neighbours with a printer.

All in one printers can be purchased for around £30 from Tesco
  • is it correct that you have to provide/show within the rm claim, original proof of purchase/reciept for the item that has been lost?

Not for Ebay claims - a printout of the Ebay page showing how much the item sold for, plus the Paypal pages showing payment and subsequent refund are sufficient. I've done this 3 times and received a full refund each time.
