We need to install some wooden batten supports above the windows to fit curtain poles too
Can anyone recommend the size, depth and thickness these should be? Dont want them to look over powering behind the curtain pole - thanks

Ours are 45 x 15 mm, and very slightly shorter than the curtain rails. That way they dont show at the ends once the curtains are hung.
Make sure your rails/poles extend far enough beyond the sides of the windows to allow for the bulk of the curtain to be "stacked" clear of the window when pulled back. This maximises light, and may be necessary to allow easy opening of the window, depending on the design.0
