Credit card charges

Hello,

I'm currently with capital one (one of the higher interest rate cards!), and I went over by £2.38 and they have charged me £12 for the lovely privilege. Do I have a leg to stand on when it comes to arguing about this..? I don't think it's really fair! It's just a few quid. I know credit card companies look at any excuse to charge extra however! Tonight I'm also going to pay £14 of it off, so it's back in the normal credit limit.

Any advice on the above is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!! :D

The credit is for up to the limit set by the card company. Even if you go 1p over it you will be charged.
The limit is not the aim to reach.
Nothing to do with "any excuse" stay within the terms and you will not pay anything extra. To avoid this stay within around 80% of the credit.
Give them a ring and as a goodwill you might get refund of the charge.
  • No, I do understand that. I don't aim to reach my limit every month! However on this occasion, as a mistake, I had gone over. It wasn't purposefully done.

I'll give them a call and see what they say. Thanks.
  • How isn't it "fair"?

It's a simply agreement: go over the limit and we'll charge you £12.

All you can do is hope for a gesture of goodwill.
