Advice on a car deal please
Hi,
Need some advice on a car deal.
I was looking to buy a Honda Jazz for my wife and found one advertised by alocal main dealer: Crown Honda in Bushey Heath near Watford. The car spec isbelow:
Jazz Hatchback 1.2 i-VTEC SE 5 door[VSA],
Registration time: Dec 2009 (i.e. just over 2 years old)
Milage: 13700
The car was advertised by the dealer for £7995, I did some valuation usingWhich? magazine's online valuation tool and What Car magazine's online tool.
Which? magazine's tool suggested that if one buys it from a dealer, theprice range should be £8100--£8850.
What Car magazine's valuation is: £8312.
I went to test drive the car on Sunday (last weekend of February as I was told sometimes they need to make a sales quote by the end of month), it seemedto be fine. Apart from a bit dirty, no obvious problems. The salesman told methat the car was used as their courtesy car, so it's sold cheaper than theothers. After a small negotiation, I agreed to buy the car for £7700 and healso added a free Supaguard (some paint protection work said to be worth £350).I paid them £1000 deposit and will pay the remaining when I collect the car ina few days. They will do a service and give me a 12 month full warranty.
When I spoke to a friend of mine, he said it seemed to be too good a deal asit's about £400 off the lowest main dealer price suggested by the valuationtools and it's almost the price one would pay from private sale. I am worried,is it really a deal too good to be true? Could it a car which had an accidentbut the dealer kept it quiet? Is it worth to have an AA inspection (but I havealready paid the deposit and don't know what can be done if the inspectionfinds any big faults)?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Ian

Becuase you bought the car through a Honda main dealer it will come with 1 years Hondacare warranty, so no need to worry about anything being wrong with the car apart from wear and tear items. You should be fine for most things as it's on an 09 plate.
Courtesy cars sometimes get a harder time than privately owned cars for obvious reasons, so I would be looking at tyres and brakes at 14k miles but nothing out of the ordinary.
As long as you are happy with the condition of the car then it sounds like you got a good deal!0 -
sounds like a good deal to me. its unusual for a dealer to be as honest as to tell you it was the courtesy car, and that fact alone would make me very happy with the deal, and the dealer.
well done0 -
Those pricing tools on whatcar etc tend to be substantially out of date so don't worry about the car being underpriced. I can guarantee that the Honda dealer will have a substantial margin on the vehicle. As already mentioned the standard approved Honda warranty is a decent one so you shouldn't have anything to worry about with the car.0

I'd be wanting it below £7k. Whether I'd get though...;)0
