Sorry if in the wrong place, please feel free to move.
My great aunt died over 10yrs ago, and it was believed all assets etc were in the hands of her brother. He has since died and her property has remained boarded up. I'm led to believe my mother was contacted by the council about the house, my mum has now been granted probate to sort everything out.
What I need to know is how do we find out if there were any bank accounts in my aunties name or other investments. My mum (who is in her 70s) spent the day yesterday going into all the banks in Manchester to try and find out, and she was shattered, i'm sure there must be an easier way. Can anyone advise who knows anything about this process. thanks in advance Viv

Thanks Vulcan,
I've printed off all the claim forms on the lost my account site for her, as she has no idea which bank/bs etc it is what does she do regarding the list of banks names any idea?
regards viv0 -
Viv. I just had a look at the forms. I would just tick all the likely ones but be aware of the notice that they will not accept forms with every box ticked. There will almost certainly be some regional societies on there which are not located near where she lived and they can be left out. I'm assuming she was unlikely to have had internet accounts with societies outside her area.
Have you read the FAQs on the web site. There is some advice on there for executors. They also advise submitting the search online.
Good luck with your search. I did something similar a few years ago but I did have some clues about the accounts from letters I found among the deceased's papers.0 -
Thanks Vulcan,
I've give mum the papers and she says she's wrote to the pensions dept also. Currently the house is still boarded up so when they manage to gain entry they may find some paperwork in there to make things a little easier. Thanks for the advice.0
