I think the phrase u r lookin for is 'my ten penneth worth'! ;)Thanks as that's all good info. Have u seen a Samsung at a decent price u can point me on direction of?0

Yup, I go along with Samsung as an overall solid manufacturer, their electronics are generally better than average.
The item you may wish to look for is the Storybook - HX-DE010EB/A62 1gb - best price around now is about £85 but with a very limited choice; but you do get a 3 year warranty on it.
If you're not in a hurry, then try uk.camelcamelcamel.com who will email you when Amazon has stock at a target price - its worked for me, but patience is needed.
In regard to backup programs - if I was you I would try the bundled backup program first, then if you don't get on with it then try one of the others mentioned - I use Roxio Retrospect which used to be bundled with Iomega external drives - runs automatically on a pre-determined schedule on an incremental basis.0 -
Thnx. Hopefully get my pc back tmoz so can look at these sites/recommendations a bit easier.0

at the moment the best price for a hdd i've seen and purchase on a samsung is the £90.98 at novatech for a 2tb drive internal, Damn i paid £99.98 last week. see link
http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/harddrives-internal/?m=89,&o=1
reason i showed the price of the 2tb or choose the 2tb is simply because the 1tb drive is £4 more.
external. samsung http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/harddrives-external/?m=89, £114.98 for the 2tb, cheaper to buy an internal and add an enclosure. for £7.98
http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/harddrives-external/harddriveenclosures/usb2.0external3.5enclosure.html i have 3 of these, they are screwless, and only takes around 5min to put the drive inside, and they look good.
alternatively theres a 2tb external seagate for £89.99 http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/harddrives-external/usb/
seagate are currently working with samsung
to quote the samsunghdd.com pageThe Seagate and Samsung strategic alignment benefits all our customers — from the consumer to the enterprise.
Our combined strengths will allow Seagate to offer a more extensive portfolio of innovative storage solutions and to quickly develop new solutions that address the industry's rapidly evolving storage needs.
What's more, Samsung HDD customers can expect more of the same, world-class support they're used to receiving from Samsung.
The choice is yours. I just supplied information. oh and thanks for the british "'my ten penneth worth'". compared with the american my 2 cents.0 -

robmar0se- I think I'm going to go for the samsung 1tb story station but can't seem to find it at £85 or if I can't get that I might get the Samsung M2 or S2 from Pixmania which is about £85.0 -
Has anyone got a link or more info about a good price for the samsung storybook?0

Thought I'd go for the Samsung S2 if I can't get the Samsung story book at £85 - anyone seen it anywhere?
Am wondering now if the Samsung S2 might not be a good idea as you think 2.5 don't last very long?
Think I prefer the story book.0 -

Think I prefer the story book.
A 2.5" portable hard drive should last as long as a 3.5" external drive as long as it isn't dropped or moved about while being used.
Samsung don't make hard drives any more, their hard drive business has been taken over by seagate and any drives still on sale are old stock that's being phased out.0 -
“Together, Seagate and Samsung have aligned our current and future product development efforts and roadmaps in order to accelerate time-to-market efficiency for new products and position us to better address the increasing demands for storage. It is an exciting time in the industry with rapidly evolving opportunities in many markets including mobile computing, cloud computing, and solid state storage.”

ok sorry marms your right, after googling found this.
as i read it, seagate are still going to be making samsung hdd's http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/19/samsung-sells-hdd-division-to-seagate-for-1-375-billion/
and its fact that 2.5in hdd dont last very long, especially if its a fujitsu model, I had one in my £120 personal video recorder, which had it owns screen so it was portable. last 6month before the hdd failed. got so peeved with it threw it in the bin. wasnt built very good, the internal data/power cable kept falling out. I dropped the unit onto my bed from under 1 foot. and then the device didnt work, that was day 1 when it arrived. had to take it apart and found the cable had come out. battery life was terrible under 2hrs when it was suppose to be 6hrs, guess the 6hrs was playback for mp3's. 6months the hdd died.
Then my brother around the same time brought up one of his mates laptops for me to look at, and that had a 2.5in fujistu drive in it. after some testing i found it was faulty, told my brother and he told his mate who then asked how much to replace. and i ended up buying a seagate hdd 2.5in to replace it with, which i got re-imburst for.
2.5in dont last long, because people carry them around and may sit on them depending on which pocket they put them in, and dont wait for the devices to stop spinning when they disconnect them or just pull the cable out thinking thats is done without using the usb disconnection feature. technically its not the hdd fault its the people using them.0
