I'd love to start a ebay business selling 2nd hand items, i think its something i'd do well at.
Only thing stopping me really is the accounting side of things.
Im not sure how you would be able to prove the out goings for stock, i mean you dont get reciepts from carbooters and jumbles for the items you buy, surely you can't just write them out yourself, can you?

I have looked on the HMRC website, but the only info i came across was with regards to VAT, and more aim towards 2nd car dealers, antique dealers ect.

Easiest way to keep a good record which 'proves' spending is to have a separate bank account. You don't need to have a business one just one for 'business' use only. Have this back up your written record and the tax man is usually happy :D

:j and  here at the mo!

Didn't think I was going to be able to add anything today, but the postman was much later today and has just delivered £3 LVs from PC, so :j as I don't like days where I've nothing to add.

Was also briefly :j:j when I opened a hand written envelope (rare these days so I'm always intrigued) and saw the slip in with it was from a market research company that I did an almost hour long telephone survey/interview for a few weeks ago for £35. I was going to phone them tomorrow actually as it's been longer than the 6 weeks they said it could take, and will have to phone them now anyway as they have sent me M&S vouchers instead of the cheque. This was the other option, but I clearly chose the cheque and she knew that as she'd confirmed it with me.
I don't shop in M&S,so these vouchers are worth less to me than the £35 cheque would have been. Grrrr :(

That's ridiculous as (I'm sure you know anyway) you are allowed to be off sick for 7 consecutive calendar days before you're obliged go get a fit note (formerly sick note :D )... Pffff... I hate when employers do that, trying to bully you!

    Edit:--Gah- Aesop beat me :D

    :o No i didn't know this, so thanks :)

Thanks for all your advice re: accounts for scary taxman :rotfl:

I used to do my self assessment accounts for Slimmingworld, like you say pretty simple : incomings, outgoings & profits.

I'll give them a ring on Monday and just double check that will be enough for them. :)

Could be good timing with the new tax year nearly upon us, and lots of carboot sales reopening.

Fairyclicks...im going to take a look at your double your money challenge :)...sounds interesting!
